2008 Mortician of the Year
The First Regional District of the Florida Mortician's Association, Inc. is pleased this year to honor Mrs. Barbara Bain Jordan as the 2008 Mortician of the Year on both the district and state levels.

Mrs. Jordan has distinguished herself in funeral service over 36 years.  She began her career under her parents.  Victor J. and the late Helen H. (Baptiste) Bain, founders of the former Bain's Funeral Home in Coconut Grove. She is currently the licensed funeral director in charge at the Grace Funeral Home in North Miami.  Mrs. Jordan has served as president of the FMA, the second woman in the 84 year history of the association to hold this office.  She has served with the national, state, and district and currently serves on the Past Presidents Council and in various other capacities.  She is the second woman to be honored as the Mortician of the Year in the First District.

She has worked with the Miami Dade County Public School System for the past 17 years, all but one of those years at the MAST Academy, where she serve as the principal's assistant.  Othe affiliations include The Coconut Grove Negro Women's Club, Inc, The Coconut Grove Homeowners and Tenants Association, The Helen B. Bentley Family Health Center Board of Directors, and The Coconut Grove Ecumenical Network.  She has represented Regional Center IV as the Office Employee of the Year and went on to receive the district recognition (runner-up). At MAST she serves on EESAC and with the PSA. She was recently honored by the Bethune Cookman University's Miami Alumni Chapter.

Mrs. Jordan is a member of the Greater St. Paul A.M.E. Church and serves on the Steward Board (president) with the Lay Oraganization, the Hattie A.E. Jackson Missionary Society, The Pastor's Aide Ministry and on the Board of Directors for the St. Paul Community Development Corporation and more.  She is an assistant secretary with The Super South District of the AME Church.  Additionally, Mrs. Jordan is a wedding consultant and special events coordinator with God's Creative Designs, a joint venture with Mesdames Rosa Williams and Janet Benjamin.

She is the mother of three daughters, Dr. Ericka Caldwell-Clinch (stacy), Andrea and Courtney Jordan and the grandmother of Sanaya and Naila.
